What Happened to Lilos Parents in Lilo and Stitch?

They are only seen in three photographs: one shows Lilo, Nani, and their parents having a picnic on the beach, another shows Lilo's mom winning a hula contest at her school's May Day celebration, and the last one is of Nani with their parents at her intermediate hula graduation.
