Who Didn't Return for Inside Out 2?
Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader didn't return for Inside Out 2 because they couldn't reach a deal with the movie's producers. The issue was about how much money they would get paid. Amy Poehler did come back to voice Joy, and she reportedly received $5 million for her role. But Mindy and Bill were asking for more money than what was offered to them. As a result, they decided not to be part of the sequel.
Instead of Mindy Kaling, Liza Lapira will now voice Disgust in the movie. Liza is known for her roles in TV shows like The Equalizer and Super Fun Night. Tony Hale, known from Veep, will be the new voice of Fear, taking over from Bill Hader. Even though Mindy and Bill won't be in the movie, there are still plenty of other familiar voices returning to make the sequel just as exciting.
Why is Mindy Kaling Not in Inside Out 2?
Mindy Kaling was replaced by Liza Lapira as the voice of Disgust in Inside Out 2 because of a payment disagreement with Disney. Mindy reportedly left the project after the studio offered her lower pay and no bonuses.
According to a report, Disney made similar offers to other main cast members, except for Amy Poehler, who voices Joy. Since Mindy did not agree with the offered payment, she decided not to return for the sequel. As a result, Liza Lapira took over the role of Disgust.
Inside Out 2
Inside Out 2 is a 2024 animated film made by Pixar for Disney. It's the sequel to the 2015 movie Inside Out. The director, Kelsey Mann, made his debut with this film. Mark Nielsen produced it, and Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein wrote the screenplay, with Mann and LeFauve creating the story.
The movie stars Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan, all returning from the first film. Tony Hale replaced Bill Hader as Fear, while Liza Lapira took over from Mindy Kaling as Disgust. New additions include Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kensington Tallman, who replaced Kaitlyn Dias as Riley.
Inside Out 2 was announced in September 2022 at the D23 Expo. Amy Poehler's return was confirmed, alongside other original cast members. Hale, Lapira, and Hawke joined in November 2023, and the roles of Edebiri, Exarchopoulos, Hauser, and Tallman were confirmed in March 2024. The movie builds on Pete Docter's idea from the first film about emotions and expands the world of Riley's mind. The film premiered in Los Angeles on June 10, 2024, and was released in the US on June 14, 2024. Critics liked it, and it made $28 million worldwide so far.
