House of The Dragon Season 3 Release Date

House of the Dragon's third season was commissioned by HBO even before the second season premiered. Francesca Orsi from HBO praised co-creators George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal during the announcement. The number of episodes for the third season hasn't been specified yet. Since Season 2 premieres in June 2024, the third season is expected to air sometime later. George R.R. Martin hinted in December 2023 that he's already working on both the third and fourth seasons.

House of The Dragon

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. It's a prequel to Game of Thrones and the second series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. The show got a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with filming starting in April 2021 in the UK.

It premiered on August 21, 2022, with ten episodes in the first season. Five days after the premiere, it was renewed for a second season. Miguel Sapochnik left as showrunner after the first season, so Ryan Condal is now the sole showrunner. The second season, with eight episodes, premiered on June 16, 2024, and the show was renewed for a third season in June 2024.

House of The Dragon Plot Line

House of the Dragon is based on parts of George R.R. Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood. It starts around 100 years after the Targaryen conquest united the Seven Kingdoms, nearly 200 years before Game of Thrones, and 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen's birth. The show has a large cast and follows the events leading to House Targaryen's downfall, including the war of succession called the "Dance of the Dragons."
