How to Play Sudoku NYT
- The level of challenge in each Sudoku puzzle changes depending on how many initial numbers are provided and where they are located.
- Before starting the game, players have to decide on the level of challenge they want. There are three options: “easy”, “medium”, and “hard”.
- Once a puzzle is picked, players will see a 9 x 9 grid. Take a look at the board and identify the columns and rows with the most numbers filled in. Filling in squares from these areas will limit the number of possible choices.
- When you're ready to input a number, select a square and it will turn yellow. This indicates that you can now input your chosen number into the grid. The numbers you choose can be changed as many times as necessary as long as they haven't been marked or shown.
- The game assists you by offering feedback when you input a number that conflicts with an already chosen one in its row, column, or block. In such cases, the conflicting numbers will be highlighted with a red dot at their corners. This feature is useful for both matching numbers to a starting number or a number selected by the player.
- Should you identify several numbers that could fit within a square, press the "candidate" button to insert placeholder numbers into the square. This strategy aids in evaluation and enables players to narrow down the correct number to use. Alternatively, to automatically populate these squares, players can switch on "Auto Candidate Mode," and each empty square will be filled with all possible candidates.
- Utilize the "check" button to verify if the number you've entered is in the right place. You have the option to examine a single cell or the entire puzzle. Correct numbers will change to blue, while incorrect numbers will be marked with a diagonal red line. Incorrect guesses can be replaced.
- When running out of ideas, players have the option to activate the "reveal button" on a single cell or for the whole puzzle. After activating, the numbers that are revealed will also switch to blue. These blue numbers cannot be altered.
- After successfully solving the puzzle, a congratulatory pop-up box will show up, informing the player about the time it took to finish the puzzle.
