"The Chosen '' is an American TV series created and directed by Dallas Jenkins, focusing on the life of Jesus of Nazareth and his followers in 1st century Judaea and Galilee. Jonathan Roumie stars as Jesus, alongside Shahar Isaac, Elizabeth Tabish, Paras Patel, Noah James, and George H. Xanthis.

The series stands out for its crowdfunding model, which made it the most successful of its kind in history. Lionsgate handles international distribution, and translations are funded by the Come and See Foundation.

The Chosen Plot

Set in 1st century Galilee, the first season of "The Chosen" follows Jesus as he gathers his disciples and begins his ministry. He calls people from diverse backgrounds to join him, including Mary Magdalene, Thaddeus the stonemason, Little James the singer, and fishermen like Simon, Andrew, James, and John. He later calls Matthew, a tax collector, after healing a paralyzed man in Capernaum.

The group travels through Samaria, where Jesus reveals himself as the Messiah to the Samaritan woman Photina, marking the start of his public ministry. In subsequent seasons, Jesus continues to perform miracles and build his group of followers, encountering challenges from various groups and preparing for significant events like the Sermon on the Mount and his journey to Jerusalem.
