The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is to blame for this. The Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR) is the national Olympic committee of Puerto Rico, and the IOC permits regions with such committees to compete. Since its 1948 Olympic debut, Puerto Rico has won numerous medals.

Puerto Rico values its participation in the Olympics because it fosters inspiration among young athletes, enhances their international standing, and demonstrates their sense of pride in their country. So, even though Puerto Rico is part of the U.S., they get to compete under their own flag and represent their people in the Games.

The Puerto Rican sportsmen have excelled in sports like as boxing, track and field, tennis, and wrestling, winning 10 medals in total.

The International Olympic Committee is the reason Puerto Rico is able to have a team of its own (IOC). The IOC allows regions with their own National Olympic Committees to compete, and Puerto Rico has one called the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR). This lets Puerto Rican athletes represent their island and compete under their own flag in the Games.

The 2024 Summer Olympics, also known as Paris 2024, are happening from July 24 to August 11, 2024, in France. Puerto Rico is an American territory, not a sovereign nation, yet it is nevertheless allowed to participate in the Olympics on its own.
