About David Gilmour
David Gilmour is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He joined the rock band Pink Floyd in 1967, right after one of the founding members, Syd Barrett, left. By the early 1980s, Pink Floyd became one of the most popular and respected bands in music. After Roger Waters left the band in 1985, Gilmour took over as the leader, and Pink Floyd released three more albums.
He was born on March 6, 1946, in Cambridge, England. He has three siblings: Peter, Mark, and Catharine. His dad, Douglas Gilmour, was a teacher at the University of Cambridge, and his mom, Sylvia (her maiden name was Wilson), was a teacher who later worked editing films for the BBC. They supported David's love for music.
Gilmour got married for the first time to Virginia "Ginger" Hasenbein, who is from America, on July 7, 1975. They had four kids: Alice, Clare, Sara, and Matthew. Then, in 1994, Gilmour married Polly Samson, who is a writer. They also have four children: Charlie (adopted son), Joe, Gabriel, and Romany.
