Melissa Humana-Paredes began playing beach volleyball at age 12 and was representing Canada internationally by age 16. She also played indoor volleyball for Storm Volleyball and at York University for four years. In 2011, she won a silver medal at the U21 World Championships with Victoria Altomare. Later, she teamed up with Taylor Pischke, and they trained under John Child. This partnership led Humana-Paredes to win a bronze medal at the World Under-23 Championships and earn the title of top female rookie in 2015.
