NFL Draft Wiki

The NFL draft is the most popular annual event in the NFL that serves as the primary source of player acquisition in the NFL. The draft consists of 7 rounds. Each team gets a draft position in reverse order based on their record from the previous year. The last place team gets the first position and the winner of the Super Bowl gets the last position. From that position, a team can either pick up a player, trade their position for another draft position, a player, or a combination of the two. The round ends when each team either picks up a player or trades in for another draft position.

The NFL draft was first held in 1936 and every year since then has been held in the same location. The original idea was to increase competition between the teams by giving the worst team the opportunity to pick up the best available player. As the event has grown in popularity, the location has changed several times.

First Pick of NFL Draft 2024

The first spot in the 2024 draft belongs to the Bears. The No. 1 pick typically goes to the team that had the worst record last season, but the Carolina Panthers, coming off a last-place finish in 2023, traded their first-round pick to Chicago last year.

It’s safe to assume that the Bears will use this valuable pick on USC quarterback Caleb Williams, who led the Trojans to a Heisman Trophy-winning season in 2022 with his 52 touchdowns. Fellow quarterback Jayden Daniels, defensive end draftee Drake Maye, defensive end J. J. McCarthy, and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. could all go early in the draft, or a struggling team could opt for wide receiver help from Harrison Jr.
