Alfie Hewett went to Acle High School and studied Sport and Exercise Science at City College Norwich.

In July 2016, he won the Wimbledon Wheelchair men's doubles with Gordon Reid, coming back from a set down. At the Rio 2016 Paralympics, he earned silver medals in both singles and doubles. In May 2017, he claimed his first Grand Slam singles title at the French Open. He won Wimbledon Wheelchair men's doubles again in 2017 and also took the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters title. By January 2018, he was ranked as the world number 1.

In March 2018, Alfie Hewett won his first Super Series singles title at the Cajun Classic in Baton Rouge. He won another Super Series title at the US Open USTA Wheelchair Championships in September 2018 and claimed both the singles and doubles titles at the US Open that same month. He successfully defended his titles at the 2019 US Open.

In 2020, Hewett won the French Open singles title and, with Gordon Reid, secured Grand Slam doubles titles at the Australian Open, US Open, and French Open. The Wimbledon Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the 2020 Paralympics, he won silver in doubles and lost the bronze medal match in singles.

Hewett was honored as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2023.
