Is Gareth Southgate leaving England?
England manager Gareth Southgate may or may not be leaving England. His current deal runs until November 2024, and he suggested that Euro 2024 might be his penultimate tournament. The Football Association has a contingency plan in place should he leave, but they have failed to find a successor so far.
Now Southgate is openly discussing 2024, confirming he will walk away if England does not triumph at the European Championships in Germany. Who is Gareth Southgate?
Gareth Southgate (born September 3, 1970) is an English football manager and former player. Since 2016, he has been the manager of the England national team. Southgate began his career at Crystal Palace in 1990 and was voted captain almost immediately in 1993.
He went on to play for Aston Villa and Middlesbrough but his career blossomed into a trophy-filled journey. He won 57 England caps from 1995 to 2004 and hung up his boots in 2006. After his retirement, he managed Middlesbrough and the England under-21 team before becoming the England national team manager.
