His work with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and radio station 2GB made him most famous. Throughout his lengthy and illustrious career, David Morrow was a race caller and broadcaster for the National Rugby League (NRL).

David was diagnosed with brain cancer in February 2024, which forced him to discontinue commentating rugby league games. Sadly, on July 16, 2024, at the age of 71, he passed away from cancer. In the sports media industry, David created a lasting impact and was much known and admired for his contributions to sports broadcasting.

David Morrow grew up in the towns of Walcha, Uralla, and Armidale, where he attended The Armidale School. David started his broadcasting career in 1971 at a radio station in Kempsey called 2KM (now 2MC), where he was a general announcer and a sports broadcaster for the New South Wales Mid North Coast. He called local horse races and rugby league matches. While working, he also completed an accountancy degree at the University of Sydney.

David was a part-time sportscaster for 2BS and an accountant in Bathurst in the mid-1970s. When he joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 1980, it was his big break. He began by answering the harness racing phone on Fridays at Harold Park and providing support for the rugby league commentary team. David took over as the primary rugby league radio pundit for ABC in 1985. Up until 1996, he called Saturday rugby league games on ABC television. From 1994 to 2014, he co-called NRL games on the radio with Warren Ryan.

David has a distinguished career as a major sports event reporter as well. He covered his first Commonwealth Games in 1986 and his first Olympic Games in 1984. In all, he covered six Commonwealth Games and eight Olympic Games. In addition to calling races in Sydney, he began commentating on sports like cricket, rugby union, soccer, and athletics for ABC in 1990.
