Jacoby Jones grew up in New Orleans East. He attended St. Augustine High School and later transferred to Marion Abramson High School after being told he was too small to play football at St. Augustine. At Abramson, he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He was recognized as an All-Metropolitan and All-Area player in basketball and track, with impressive times in the 100 meters and 200 meters.
Hurricane Katrina devastated Jones' childhood home and high school. Despite originally starting college on a track scholarship at Southeastern Louisiana University in 2002, he transferred to Lane College in 2003. At Lane College, a Division II school, Jones earned acclaim as a three-time All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) player and distinguished himself as a punt and kick returner. He was also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity during his college years.
