George Russell Early Life

George Russell's early racing career began with a big opportunity in October 2015. He got to drive a Formula One car as a reward for winning the 2014 Autosport BRDC Award. He tested the McLaren MP4-26 at Silverstone Circuit. In 2016, Russell worked with Mercedes on their simulator and joined their junior driver program in early 2017. His first test with Mercedes was in April 2017, where he drove the F1 W06 Hybrid at Algarve International Circuit. Later in August 2017, he drove the F1 W08 EQ Power+ at the Hungaroring.

Russell made his first appearance in a Formula One Grand Prix weekend in November 2017. He drove for Force India during the practice sessions of the Brazilian and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix. In 2018, he became a reserve driver for Mercedes and did more testing for them, including at the Hungaroring. He also tested Pirelli tires for Force India after the Spanish Grand Prix, driving 123 laps.
