What Happened to George Russell?

George Russell was disqualified from the Belgian Grand Prix because his car was found to be too light after the race. This means Lewis Hamilton, Russell's teammate, has been moved up to first place. Russell had originally won the race by using a strategy that involved only one pit stop and managing to keep Hamilton behind him by just half a second.

But after the race, officials found that 2.8 liters of fuel had been removed from Russell’s car, making it lighter than the minimum weight required by the rules. A report showed that although the car was initially checked and seemed to be the right weight, it was later found to be 1.5 kg below the minimum weight. The team didn’t follow the correct procedure for draining the fuel, which led to the car being too light.

The stewards decided that Russell should be disqualified for not meeting the weight requirement. As a result, Hamilton was promoted to first place, Oscar Piastri moved to second place, and Charles Leclerc took third place. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said the team would accept the stewards' decision, even though it’s a tough situation for Russell. He said they need to learn from this mistake and move forward.

Why was George Russell Disqualified?

George Russell was disqualified from the Belgian Grand Prix because his car was found to be too light after the race. The rules say that each car must weigh at least 798 kg, but after the race, Russell’s car weighed only 796.5 kg. The reason it was too light was that 2.8 liters of fuel were removed from the car, and it wasn’t drained properly according to the rules. Because the car didn’t meet the weight requirement, Russell was disqualified, and his teammate Lewis Hamilton was moved up to first place.
