What Happened to Zion Williamson?
On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, the Play-In Tournament game between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Lakers took place.
Pelicans' star, Zion Williamson, unexpectedly suffered an injury at the very end of the game. Nobody expected this to happen with just 3 minutes remaining in the game.
Zion scored his 40th point and brought the game to a tie at 95 points, but his pain got severe and he couldn’t continue. He signaled to the bench for a substitute player to take his place after a layup.
Zion has had a healthy season where he had a career-high score of 43 points prior to this setback. There has been no official confirmation from the Pelicans about what caused the injury.
But it's speculated to be related to sudden leg soreness. Fortunately, Zion’s X-rays came back negative for any serious injury, and his coach, Willie Green, had referred to him as ‘day-to-day’.
It is not like if Zion had played through the very end, the team would have won, but there would have been a winning possibility since the team was very close to winning.
