Mikey Williams NBA Draft
Mikey Williams made a sensational debut at San Ysidro High School in San Diego as a freshman. On November 20, 2019, he showcased his exceptional talent by scoring 46 points, along with five rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a commanding 98–46 win against El Cajon Valley High School.
His next game saw him net 50 points in an 85–77 victory over Mission Bay High School. On December 13, 2019, Williams set a career-high by scoring 77 points, including nine three-pointers, in a 116–52 triumph over Kearny High School. This performance shattered the CIF San Diego Section single-game scoring record, previously held since 2005, and set a new state freshman scoring record.
Despite a challenging game against top recruit Evan Mobley and Rancho Christian School, Williams managed 35 points in a 103–71 defeat. His stellar season concluded with leading San Ysidro to the CIF-SDS Division III title on February 27, 2020, while averaging 29.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, earning him the title of MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year.
In his sophomore year, Williams transferred to Lake Norman Christian School in Huntersville, North Carolina. However, he decided to return to San Ysidro High School for his senior year in April 2022, preferring to continue his basketball career closer to home. On November 5, 2022, Williams committed to play for the University of Memphis under head coach Penny Hardaway, starting in the 2023–24 season.
Unfortunately, due to a criminal investigation involving gun charges related to an incident at his property in California, Williams did not join the Memphis basketball team but enrolled in online courses at the university. By late December 2023, Williams' charges were reduced, requiring him to complete volunteer work, which cleared the way for him to play college basketball.
On January 8, 2024, both Williams and fellow Memphis freshman JJ Taylor entered the NCAA transfer portal mid-season. Shortly thereafter, on January 12, 2024, Williams announced his transfer to the University of Central Florida (UCF), aiming for a fresh start and the opportunity to continue his basketball journey.
