Who is Duffy?

Duffy is a singer, songwriter, and actress from Wales. Her music style mixes soul, pop rock, and neo-soul. In 2008, Duffy released her first album, Rockferry. It became really popular worldwide for the song Mercy. She won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Rockferry in 2009. She won several Brit Awards and was also nominated for many awards for her music career. In 2010, she acted in a movie called Patagonia and released another album called Endlessly, which did okay.

In 2011, Duffy took a break from making music and came back in 2015 for a movie called Legend. Since 2011 she has been very less in the spotlight due to her personal struggles. As per her official website, she is currently signed to Polydor Records, which works under Universal Music Group.

What Happened to Duffy?

Duffy took a break from social media for four years and came back recently. She didn't make music for 10 years. She revealed the reasons behind her break in February 2020. She told everyone that she went through a traumatic experience that she was drugged and kidnapped in a foreign country. She detailed how she was drugged in a restaurant and taken to another country without her consent. She was depressed and struggled a lot. But she found a way out and overcame it later. Even though Duffy went through a bad time, she's strong. She's trying to be happy again and her fans motivated her.

Duffy Family

Duffy was born on June 23, 1984, in Bangor, Gwynedd. She grew up with her parents, John Duffy and Joyce Smith, in Nefyn, close to Pwllheli. She has a twin sister named Kate and an older sister named Kelly Ann, who was born in 1980. When Duffy was 10 years old, her parents got divorced. After that, she moved with her mother and sisters to Letterston, near Fishguard in Pembrokeshire.

As a kid, Duffy went to Ysgol Nefyn in Gwynedd and Sir Thomas Picton School in Haverfordwest. When she was 17, she went to Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor in Pwllheli to study A-levels. Later, she went to the University of Chester in Warrington. There, she studied Commercial Music Production. Then, starting from 2004, she studied Performing Arts at the Parkgate campus. When Duffy was 14 years old, something scary happened. Her stepfather's ex-wife wanted to pay someone to hurt him. The police found out and put Duffy in a safe place for a short time. The ex-wife, Dawn Watson, got in trouble and went to jail for trying to hurt Duffy's stepfather.

Duffy was really scared during this time. She felt sick and terrified. Living in a safe place was tough for her. When she was 15, she decided to run away and go back to her dad's house in Nefyn. But her family was upset with her for leaving. They didn't talk to her for a whole year. After her parents broke up, Duffy went through a tough time for the next few years. She did things she wasn't proud of, like drinking too much and even stealing a boat. Looking back, she knows running away was a bad idea.

Duffy Relationships

As of now, Duffy is single and live her life quite privately. She never married before but dated famous personalities. Duffy was in a relationship with Mark Durston, who was born in Cheshire, for more than five years until November 2006. They lived together in Abersoch. After that relationship ended, she dated Welsh international rugby player Mike Phillips from September 2009 until May 2011.
