Bitcoin

Bitcoin (abbreviation: BTC; sign: ₿) is the first decentralized cryptocurrency. Nodes in the peer-to-peer bitcoin network verify transactions through cryptography and record them in a public distributed ledger, called a blockchain, without central oversight.

Consensus between nodes is achieved using a computationally intensive process based on proof of work, called mining, that secures the bitcoin blockchain. Mining consumes large quantities of electricity and has been criticized for its environmental impact.[5]

Bitcoin Development

Nakamoto started working on Bitcoin's code in 2007. On August 18, 2008, he registered the website bitcoin.org and shared a paper about Bitcoin on October 31, explaining how it works as a digital cash system. On January 9, 2009, Nakamoto released the first version of the Bitcoin software and launched the Bitcoin network.

He kept improving the software until 2010, when he gave control to another developer named Gavin Andresen. As of 2021, Nakamoto is thought to own between 750,000 and 1,100,000 bitcoins, making him very rich at that time.

Networth

Satoshi Nakamoto's net worth is about $68.67 billion because he mined the first bitcoins. He showed proof of this by sharing a message in the very first block of Bitcoin. Since he mined Bitcoin early on, he has a lot of it in his wallets.

In 2013, a researcher named Sergio Demian Lerner studied how much Bitcoin Satoshi might have mined. He thought that in 2009, only Satoshi was mining because not many people were using the network. Since the mining power was low, Satoshi was probably the only one mining Bitcoin at first.

Satoshi Bitcoin Now

A few days after Sergio shared his idea, he found more proof that Satoshi was likely the main miner of Bitcoin in 2009. He also pointed out which wallet Satoshi used. Other researchers, like the BitMex team, looked at Sergio's work and found that about 1 million BTC are still in Satoshi's wallet.

Satoshi sent some Bitcoin to others. The first time he did this was on January 12, 2009, when he sent 50 BTC to Hal Finney, who has since died. This was just one day after Finney tweeted, "Running bitcoin." Those 50 BTC were worth about $2.5 million in 2021, showing how much value Satoshi created as one of the first Bitcoin miners.
