Who is Terry McDonough?

Terry McDonough used to work for the Arizona Cardinals. He spent 10 years there, and for some of that time, he was in charge of finding new players for the team. He began working in the NFL as a scout for the San Francisco 49ers in 1989. He started as an intern when the 49ers won Super Bowl XXIV. He played high school basketball at Hingham (MA). He has an influential family background and his family members are famous in the spotlight.

Over time, he moved up in his job and after 24 years, he became an Eastern Regional Scout for the Arizona Cardinals. Shortly after joining the Cardinals, McDonough got a big promotion to Vice President of Player Personnel. In this role, he was responsible for managing both the college and pro-player departments and also helped with contract negotiations.

What Happened to Terry McDonough?

McDonough left his job a few years later because he had problems with the team owner, Michael Bidwill. McDonough said Bidwill cheated and unfairly demoted him after he raised concerns about a plan to hide the suspension of the then-General Manager, Steve Keim, who got arrested for driving under the influence. McDonough accused them of using secret phones to hide this. Bidwill said it wasn't true, but McDonough left the team. He hasn't worked in the NFL since then.

There were also some reports started circulating regarding his personal life. According to some reports, he was involved in domestic violence by involving in spousal abuse and neglected the responsibility of taking care his daughter. As per these reports, he was also involved in attacking his neighbor.

An NFL judge said the Arizona Cardinals had to pay almost $3 million to Terry McDonough, a former team leader. This was because they said untrue and harmful things about him to the media. McDonough was given $2.25 million for punishment, $600,000 for feeling really upset, and $150,000 for damage to his reputation. This decision was made in a federal court on Monday. McDonough's complaints about being treated unfairly, made to feel really upset on purpose, and having his privacy invaded were rejected. He wanted to get as much as $125 million in damages altogether.

Terry McDonough Career

Terry McDonough was a star player in high school at Hingham (MA) High School. He was recognized for his skills as a running back in football and baseball. He also played basketball and received recognition for his performance before he moved to Bridgton Academy. He started working for the NFL as an intern with the San Francisco team in 1989. That year, the 49ers did really well, winning 14 games out of 16 in the regular season and then winning Super Bowl XXIV against the Broncos.

In his 24th year of scouting for the NFL, McDonough joined the Cardinals in 2013 as a scout focusing on the Eastern region. Before that, he worked for 10 years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and for the last four years there, he was the Director of Player Personnel. He started working for the Jaguars in 2003, and in January 2009, he got a promotion to Director of Player Personnel. In that job, McDonough looked for the best college players all over the country and also checked out the top free agents every year.

In January 2014, Terry McDonough got a new job title: Vice President of Player Personnel for the Arizona Cardinals. In this role, he's in charge of both the college and pro player departments, and he helps with negotiating player contracts.
