Woods and Bennett's connection goes back to 2013, when Bennett was still with Kuchar. They played together at the President's Cup, where their relationship started to develop. Woods praised Bennett for being down-to-earth and loyal, highlighting their similar perspectives on the game.

Their bond extends to how they analyze the golf course and read putts, showing a shared understanding of the game. Having Bennett by his side for the Masters Tournament provides Woods with a familiar and trusted partner, enhancing their ability to strategize and navigate the course effectively. With Bennett's experience and Woods' expertise, they form a formidable team ready to tackle the challenges of the tournament.

History of Tiger’s Caddy

Throughout his remarkable career, Tiger Woods has had three main caddies, along with a few stand-ins. His first caddie was Mike "Fluff" Cowan, who started with Woods in 1996 when Woods was only 20 years old. Together, they won seven PGA Tour titles, including the 1997 Masters Tournament, where Woods made history as the youngest player to win the green jacket.

In 1999, Woods switched to Steve Williams, and their partnership lasted for 12 years. During this time, they won 63 PGA Tour events and 13 major championships, including three US Opens. After parting ways with Williams in 2011, Joe LaCava became Woods' third full-time caddie.

LaCava helped Woods regain his form, leading to 11 PGA Tour victories together. Their partnership culminated in Woods tying the all-time PGA Tour record for wins at the 2019 Masters Tournament. As for Woods' current caddie, Lance Bennett, it's uncertain how long he will be caddying for the 15-time major champion.

What is Caddy?

In golf or disc golf, a caddie (or caddy) helps players during the game. They carry the player's bag and clubs or discs, fix any damage on the course, and give advice and support to the player. Caddies usually don't earn much money and only get a small part of the prize money.

They work as freelancers for individual players, but they don't have guaranteed hours. In 2020, caddies on the PGA European Tour could earn bonuses by wearing sponsors' logos on their gear. The word "caddie" comes from Scotland and originally meant a student military officer.

Later, it referred to someone who did small jobs. By the 19th century, it meant someone who carried clubs for a golfer, or, in its short form, "cad," a person with a bad reputation. The first recorded use of a caddie was in Edinburgh in 1681 by James II of England during the first international golf competition.

Bennett grew up in Prince George, Virginia, but there's not much information about his school days. He's been a PGA Tour caddie since 2003. Woods and Bennett have known each other since Bennett worked with Kuchar. Bennett was supposed to work with Adrien Dumont de Chassart, but since Chassart won't play, he's with Woods this week.

It's not clear if Woods and Bennett will keep working together after this tournament. Woods doesn't have a permanent caddie right now. He split with Joe LaCava last year. In 2023, Woods had his friend Rob McNamara caddie for him at the Hero World Challenge and his daughter Sam at the PNC Championship. After leaving Woods, LaCava is now with Patrick Cantlay, who's also playing at this week's PGA Tour event.
