Why Does the Duolingo App Icon Look Sick?

The new icon features the app's owl mascot looking sad and sick, which is a big change from the usually happy and friendly image. People online are speculating why the owl looks so unhappy, but Duolingo hasn't explained why they made this change.
Why is Duolingo Icon Melting?
In October 2023, Duolingo changed the app icon again, making the owl look like it was melting. The original Duolingo app icon shows a green owl that looks cheerful. On Duolingo UK's TikTok page, there's a big plush owl that also has a happy face as it travels around the UK. But the new app icon looks sad and unhappy, which is very different from the usual cheerful look.
