Why is Jack Edwards Retiring?

Jack Edwards retires after 19 seasons of calling Bruins games for NESN. Edwards called the position his “dream job” when he first started calling Bruins games on NESN in 2005 after more than 10 years at ESPN. Edwards will continue to call Bruins games throughout the remainder of the regular season and into the playoffs.

He was honored before the Bruins’ regular season finale against Ottawa on Tuesday night when he was presented a golden stick to commemorate his nearly 20 years of covering the team. He put his hand on his heart in appreciation and raised the stick as fans chanted “Jack!”“I grew up a fan of the Bruins,” Edwards said, “and I’m so proud to be able to wrap up my 45-year career covering this great club.”Before joining NESN in 2005, Edwards worked for Rhode Island-based television stations in Providence, Rhode Island, as well as Boston-based stations in Boston. He graduated from New Hampshire and then ESPN in 1991.

As of 2024, he has made it very clear that he has no accidents, no cancer, no dementia, and no stroke. He has stated that he is in very good health. Jack Edwards was born March 1957, is an American sportscaster. Since 2005, Edwards has worked as a commentator for NESN television, broadcasting Boston Bruins games. Edwards worked for ESPN from 1991 to 2003 as an anchor for ESPN's sports news program, SportsCenter. He was also a commentator for ESPN's NHL, MLS, and Little League Baseball broadcasts, as well as ESPN's 2002 FIFA World Cup coverage. Edwards also provided commentary for the 2002 Konami soccer video game, MLS Extra Time.

Jack Edwards Career

Edwards began his career as a hockey announcer for the University of New Hampshire hockey team. Edwards then went on to work as a sports announcer and sports anchor at radio stations WGIR and WMUR in Manchester, NH. In the early ‘80s, Edwards worked as a sports talk radio host at WRKO Boston, as well as a weekend sports anchor at Providence, Rhode Island’s WJAR. Edwards then worked as a sports anchor and sports reporter at Boston’s WCVB and Boston’s WHDH. Edwards also worked as a reporter on ABC's “Wide World Of Sports” and was an alpine skiing announcer for ABC's 1988 Winter Olympics coverage and CBS’s 1991 Olympic WinterFest coverage.

Jack’s voice has become a part of the Boston Bruins’ lexicon, as he serves as the voice of the Boston Bruins on NESN’s NESN Play-by-Play. Among his many highlights is calling the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he was there to witness Cristiano Ronaldo’s Golden Boot triumph. In addition to his work as a broadcaster, Jack has also taken his talents to the business world. He and his wife Lisa co-founded Fountainhead Productions.

Edwards joined ESPN in 1991 as an anchor and reporter for SportsCenter. Edwards also worked as a Little League baseball announcer from 1995-2002, the X Games 1996-1997, ESPN's National Hockey Night (1999-2003), and soccer (including coverage of FIFA World Cup 2002). In 2003, Edwards became the announcer for College Sports Television (a newly established specialty cable sports channel). Edwards also served as the Chicago Fire's on-field soccer commentator for Fox Sports Net Chicago
