Why is Julie Haener Retiring?
When Julie Haener from KTVU announced this month that she's retiring after 27 years as an anchor, people on social media had a really positive reaction. They praised her for being a reliable journalist who always did a great job. Julie is leaving while she's still doing really well in her career.
Since she announced her retirement earlier this month, Julie, who is 56 years old, has been getting lots of gifts and supportive messages from her co-workers at Channel 2 and her loyal fans. She tries her best to read every single message people send her. Some messages that mean a lot to her, she saves as screenshots on her phone. She even took time to reread some of them before the news started at 5 o'clock on Tuesday, June 18th.

Haener told the Chronicle before her final broadcast, “It’s so funny. When I go out, people are like, ‘I’ve really grown up watching you. So many people I don’t even know have been reaching out and saying, ‘We’re going to miss you.’ And that really touches my heart.”

Who is Julie Haener?
Originally from Tacoma, WA, she studied Broadcast Journalism at the University of Washington. Haener started working at KTVU as a field reporter in 1997. Before that, she began her television career at KNDO in Yakima, Washington. She grew up in Tacoma and studied broadcast journalism at the University of Washington.
"One of my favorite things," she said, "is to highlight someone who doesn't usually get attention, to give them a voice and share their story."
When Julie isn't working, she enjoys spending time with her family. Her hobbies are horseback riding, hiking, and traveling.

Jake, the older son, is now a quarterback for the New Orleans Saints in the NFL. Before that, he was a team captain for the Fresno State Bulldogs. Their younger son, Kyle, played lacrosse in college as a defenseman for Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Nowadays, Kyle works as a sales development representative.
